Read the evidence behind a drive specification

Begin with the claim you need to establish

Different records answer different questions. A manufacturer catalogue can support a published specification. A component traceability record can connect an identified component or batch to procurement and production records. A controlled test can document performance under stated conditions. None automatically proves all the others. Decide what matters for the proposed purchase before asking for a bundle of certificates.

Read the directory's evidence states literally

“Not supplied” means there is no supporting record in the directory for that evidence category. “Review pending” means a document has been submitted but review is incomplete. “Document reviewed” describes review of the record and its stated scope; it does not mean the platform performed an independent laboratory test. An official-source profile is not a factory audit.

Evaluate component provenance without overclaiming

For an IGBT or other critical component, ask how the component identification connects to the drive model, production batch and procurement record. Useful material may include supplier documentation, batch references and production traceability records with appropriate confidential details protected. A close-up photograph alone does not establish that a part is new, authentic or the same part installed in every delivered unit.

If a supplier changes a component source, ask how that change is approved and tracked. Preserve the distinction between a sample unit and a production batch. Commercially sensitive records may require a controlled review arrangement; do not publish private purchasing information in a public manufacturer profile.

Examine the conditions behind an overload test

Identify the exact drive, firmware, motor, load method and reference current. Check overload percentage, duration, repetition and initial conditions. Ambient temperature, cooling and installation can affect the interpretation. A result stated as “150% passed” is incomplete if it omits the baseline current or time. Request measured results, recorded faults and the scope of the conclusion.

An illustrative comparison shows the problem: two reports can both say 150% but use different rated-current bases and different durations. Their percentages are not sufficient for a like-for-like comparison. Normalize the question before comparing the outcome, and preserve each report's actual test conditions rather than rewriting them into one universal rating.

Inspect integration evidence for reproducibility

A useful PLC report identifies the controller, drive, firmware and communication option, with the tested functions and configuration files. Review whether the report covers your intended mode, diagnostics and restart behavior. A demonstration with another controller can be useful background, but it leaves a compatibility question for the requested installation.

Check certificate scope independently

Read the named entity, product identifiers, standard or scheme, date and scope. Where an issuing organization provides a verification facility, use it to check the reference. A logo on a brochure is insufficient. Do not extend a certificate for one product family, facility or configuration to every product sold under the brand.

Keep a decision record

Maintain a short list of the claim, supporting file, revision, scope, reviewer observations and remaining questions. Attach the relevant records to the exact sourcing conversation rather than relying on a general brand reputation. If a record is unavailable, state the unresolved requirement and agree the next action. Absence of evidence should remain visible throughout the comparison.
